Living with Dignity Together

LAKESIDE MEMORY NEIGHBORHOOD
Lakeside Memory Neighborhood (LMN), is a proposed nonprofit, Montessori-inspired dementia care community in the Lakeside area designed to promote dignity, connection, and quality of life for people living with dementia. Led by healthcare professionals, community leaders, and families with personal experience of dementia, the initiative responds to the growing local need for compassionate, high quality care options that move beyond impersonal environments.
A place to live with dementia, where dignity, purpose and belonging come first.
Mission
To create a nonprofit, Montessori-inspired dementia neighborhood in Lakeside that supports people living with dementia to live with dignity, purpose, and connection through ability-focused care and strong family and community partnerships.
Vision
A Lakeside nonprofit neighborhood where people living with dementia experience dignity, belonging, and quality of life through compassionate, culturally attuned care and
meaningful support for families and care partners. Creating a place where people living with dementia experience dignity, purpose, and connection.

Montessori-Inspired Living at LMN
At LMN, our care philosophy is inspired by the Montessori approach for aging and dementia, a model that focuses on the strengths, abilities, and individuality of each person. Rather than concentrating on what someone has lost, we focus on what they can still do and enjoy.
Our goal is to create a community where individuals living with memory loss can continue to experience purpose, independence, and meaningful connection every day.

A Different Kind of Memory Care
LMN is not simply a place where people receive care - it is a place where individuals continue to live with purpose, dignity, and connection.
Our Montessori-inspired approach allows residents to remain engaged in meaningful activities while receiving the support they need in a safe and compassionate environment.

Meaningful Social Connections
Human connection is essential to wellbeing. LMN provides opportunities for residents to build friendships, participate in group activities, and maintain relationships with family members.
Through shared meals, music, conversation, and daily routines, residents continue to experience the joy of community.

Respect for Each Individual
Every resident has a unique life story, personal preferences, and abilities. Our caregivers take the time to learn about each individual so that care and activities can be tailored to their interests, routines, and strengths.
We believe every person deserves to be treated with dignity, patience, and respect.

A Community Designed for Purpose
Unlike traditional assisted living environments that may emphasize passive care, LMN encourages residents to remain active participants in daily life.
Residents are invited to engage in familiar and meaningful activities such as:
-
Folding laundry
-
Gardening
-
Baking and food preparation
-
Setting tables for meals
-
Music and art activities
-
Light household tasks
-
Social gatherings and conversation
These activities are not chores - they are purposeful opportunities that reinforce identity, independence, and self-worth.

Encouraging Independence
The Montessori approach encourages residents to do as much as they are able for themselves. Caregivers provide support and guidance when needed, while allowing residents to maintain independence in daily routines.
This approach helps:
-
Preserve confidence and self-esteem
-
Maintain physical and cognitive abilities
-
Reduce frustration and agitation

A Thoughtfully Prepared Environment
Our environment is intentionally designed to support individuals with memory loss.
Features may include:
-
Clear visual cues and familiar objects
-
Easy-to-navigate spaces
-
Comfortable gathering areas that promote social interaction
-
Activity stations that invite engagement and curiosity
The goal is to create a space where residents feel safe, comfortable, and naturally encouraged to participate in daily life.
